In the early 1950s, Rolex provided the British Everest Expedition with a 36mm Oyster Perpetual, which was the beginning of the development of a specialized watch for adventurers, the Explorer.
Since then, Rolex has followed its own philosophy of changing what needs to be changed and not changing what does not, in order to achieve high precision, toughness, and optimum legibility.
The 36mm Oyster case and quarter-arabic black dial are a tradition of the Explorer.

This is a near end-of-life P6 serial number of Explorer Ref. 14270, which was introduced at the end of the 1980s and manufactured until around 2000.
There are some minor scratches from storage, but it is a rare piece with almost no signs of use, and the back cover seal and clasp protection seal from that time remain.
