On October 3, 1962, astronaut Walter Schiller wore his personal Speedmaster on the Sigma 7 Mercury mission.
Fifty years later, in 2012, OMEGA reissued the Speedmaster Ref. CK2998 from 1962, which was Walter Schiller's favorite watch, and released it as the "First Omega in Space". The second edition was introduced 12 years later in 2024.
The gray-blue stepped dial, which is reminiscent of the plated dials of the time, Super-LumiNova that reproduces the ageing of the radium luminescence, and the bracelet that reproduces the Caterpillar bracelet, all of which will appeal to vintage fans, are combined with the latest and best Master Chronometer-certified Cal. 3861. 3861, the newest and best Cal. 3861, which has acquired the Master Chronometer certification, has been installed and significantly upgraded.
