This watch is marked at 6 o'clock on the dial with "T>25" tritium luminescence, but the actual luminescent material used is all luminova.
This is a rare specification that could only be seen at the time when the luminous paint was switched.
There are some minor scratches, but overall the watch is in very good condition.
The Explorer booklet that comes with the watch is circa 1994.
The Explorer began in the early 1950s when Rolex provided a 36mm diameter Oyster Perpetual to the British Everest Expedition, aiming to create a watch specifically for adventurers.
Ref. 14270, shown here, was introduced in 1990 as the successor to its predecessor Ref. 1016, which had been a long seller for 30 years.
While maintaining the traditional 36mm diameter case and quarter-arabic dial design, it has established a sharp and modern style with a sapphire crystal windshield and polished drapery dial.
